Kitchen volunteers needed – January 2025

Would you like to help us out in the kitchen on a monthly basis?  We are in need of volunteers on the 2nd Saturday and the 1st and 2nd Sundays of each month.

The work is very practical, mostly putting dishes through a dishwasher.

If you are free and would like to help us in the kitchen, please email Paddy on mail@mannasociety.org.uk. The hours are from 9am to 1pm.

Would you like to help us out in the kitchen on a weekly basis? We are looking for kitchen volunteers on a Monday. The work is very practical, mostly putting dishes through a dishwasher. 

Or maybe once a month works better for you? If so we are in need of kitchen volunteers on the 1st & 4th Sunday of each month. 

If you are free once a week or once a month and would like to help us in the kitchen please email Paddy on mail@mannasociety.org.uk The hours are from 9am to 1pm.

Please support our sponsored sleepout – 29th February 2024.

Twelve employees from SRL Traffic Systems, Skanska, Costain and Hatton Traffic Management will be sleeping out for a night to raise funds for us. The sleepout will take place from 9pm to 6am on Thursday 29th February at St George’s RC Cathedral, Elephant & Castle.

In the 22-23 year we had a deficit of £30,000 and this year to date we have a deficit of £100,000. Any help that you can give to help us address this deficit would be very much appreciated.

As you will see from our Christmas Appeal on page 8, our monthly expenditure has risen from £40,000 in 22-23 to approx. £45,000 in 23-24. For the first six months of 23-24 our expenditure has outstripped our income be £75,000. In our Christmas Appeal we have suggested a number of ways in which you may be able to help us address this deficit. Any help that you can give would be very much appreciated.

Harvest Festival gifts provide us approx. 70% of our foodstuffs for the year and are therefore of critical importance to us. Housing & Welfare Advice Worker’s post

The Manna Day Centre is a drop-in Centre for homeless and long-term unemployed single men and women. It is run by a team of project workers, under the Director, who are responsible for its smooth operation. Basic Services offered include food, showers, clothing, housing & welfare advice, medical care, and access to laptops. The Centre opens to service users 7 days a week, 8.30 a.m. – 1.30 p.m. The working week for this particular post is from Monday to Friday, from 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. each day. Annual leave is 25 days plus time in lieu of bank holidays worked.

Housing & Welfare Advice Workers must have a commitment to homeless people, which includes acceptance and respect. They will also work for necessary social change to ensure justice for homeless and poor people. Responsibilities are shared among the team according to needs, skills and aptitudes. The annual salary for this post ranges from £27,660 to £33,450. The starting salary will be dependent on your experience.
